Test #1
1½ Mile Run

Run 1½ miles within a time limit of 13 minutes.

Testing: legs, back, lungs and general stamina.

Details: The pace at which the event is run is entirely up to the individual, as long as the finishing criteria of 13 minutes is met. Leaving the course at any point will disqualify the individual from further testing. During the run each person’s time will be called off at one-half (½) mile intervals, at approximately 200 yards from the finish, and at the finish. The specific course will be explained immediately prior to the run.

THIS EXERCISE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A FIVE-MINUTE REST.

Test #2
Victim Rescue

Grasp the “victim” and move it a distance of 50 feet within one minute.

Testing: Total body strength and flexibility used during rescue activities. 

Details: “Victim” is approximately 175 pound dummy.

THIS EXERCISE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A FIVE-MINUTE REST.

Test #3
Hose Carry

Carry (2) 50-foot sections of 2 ½ inch hose, three floors up and back down the stairway of the Process Unit- twice) in four minutes.

Testing: Leg, back, arm muscles, lungs and general stamina.

Details: Hose weight is approximately 75 lbs. The hose will be folded in a shoulder fold carry and may be on either shoulder. This test duplicates activities performed at fire incidents above ground level. 

THIS EXERCISE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A FIVE-MINUTE REST.

Test #4
Hose Pull

Pull a dry section of hose from the ground to the top of the Rescue Tower.

Testing: Arm and back muscles strength and stamina .

Details: Hose length is 33 feet, 9 inches. The rolled section of the hose will be attached to ½ inch Kernmantle rope. The section must be pulled to the top in one continuous motion. No stops will be allowed. This is an actual duplication of action necessary to raise equipment above ground level. Weight is approximately 50 lbs.
